Textbooks

Obtain a desk copy from the publisher. Library copies of textbooks are placed on reserve and are for in-library use only.

Reserve Books
Complete a "Reserve Items" form.
A new form must be filled out every term. Complete a separate form for each class and include the library call number.  If you can submit this form to the library before the term begins, we can have requested materials on reserve by week one of the quarter.

Check-out Periods for Faculty
Faculty must present an Art Institute ID to check materials out of the library.

  • Books, CD-ROMs - Four weeks

  • DVDs & VHS Tapes - One week

  • Reserve Books – Overnight

Overdue Fines
Faculty members are not charged overdue fines, but they are charged replacement fees for lost or damaged items.

Renewals
A book may be renewed as long as no one else has requested it. You do not need to bring the book in, and you may renew by telephone. Call (503) 382-4796

You can now fill out the materials request form online.
Use the form to request items for the collection.

Research Databases
Beginning Summer 2010, the library's electronic resources have expanded. This page will reflect the new resources as of July 12th.

Print Periodicals
Current list of the periodicals we receive in print, as well as holdings information, and links to periodicals by major program.

Library Instruction, Scheduling Library Classroom, Book Requests

Reference and Research Assistance
We are happy to provide library instruction for your classes. We offer library tours, database presentations, and information literacy workshops. Workshops may take place in the classroom, at the library, or in computer labs where students can get hands-on experience using databases and other research resources. Please contact Tricia  to schedule a presentation or to receive further information, or check out the current course pages.

Class & Group Use
Classes and groups using the library should be respectful of other students studying in the library.Please contact Nancy Thurston to schedule a class in the library classroom.

Faculty / Staff Book Club
The library manages a faculty/staff book club, which meets on an occasional basis. If you would like to be added to the book club list, please email Tricia.

Food and Drink
Please do not bring food into the library.

You may bring beverages with a secured lid into the library.

Noise / Music Players / Cell Phones
The library is a quiet study area, please be considerate of others. If you must discuss something, please talk quietly. Music players with headphones may be used, but must be inaudible to others. Cell phones must be silenced. Please leave the library if a phone conversation is necessary.

Copying and Printing Charges
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or reproductions of copyrighted material; the person who makes the copies is liable for any infringement.

Copies are .10 each for 8.5 x 11 B&W, .20 each for 11 x 17 B&W, and .50 each for Color

Scanner
There is a scanner in the library for educational purposes. Please be aware that all copying by scanning is subject to US copyright law. Please ask a librarian if you have any questions about appropriate use of the scanner.
